Thought Leaders
Meet the Leader: Larry Dry, Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services

In this edition of our Meet the Leader series, we’re excited to spotlight Larry Dry, General Manager of Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services. A seasoned healthcare executive with more than 15 years of experience in radiology, Larry brings a rare blend of clinical insight, operational expertise, and people-first leadership to the role. From his early days as an arterial blood gas technician to leading teams across hospitals and medical groups, Larry has always believed in the power of collaboration and purpose-driven work. Now at the helm of Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services, he’s helping shape its future.

From Patient-Facing Roles to Strategic Leadership

Larry’s healthcare journey began in a hospital lab, working as an arterial blood gas technician during college. In those early experiences, connecting with patients and working alongside physicians, his passion for healthcare truly took root.

After earning a master’s degree in health administration, he transitioned into hospital operations, where he spent more than a decade leading ancillary and support services. Eight of those years were spent directly supervising radiology departments, laying the foundation for his deep understanding of imaging services.

From there, Larry moved into medical group operations with a radiology practice, spending another five years immersed in the unique staffing and operational challenges of the field.

Joining the Epic Team

Larry’s transition to Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services began through a consulting relationship. After conversations with Epic Specialty Services President Gary Weinhouse and Epic Staffing Group CEO Mark Siegel, Larry saw real potential in the company’s mission and people. “I’d met Dr. Faisal Sami and the Chicago Telerad team a few years earlier to learn about their scribe model,” Larry shares. “So when this opportunity came up, I already had a positive impression.”

Chicago Telerad, founded by Dr. Sami, became part of Epic Staffing Group in 2024 and was rebranded as Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services, operating under Epic Specialty Services.

Dr. Sami now serves as a Clinical Advisor to the Diagnostics & Imaging team, helping guide the next phase of growth and innovation.

Once Larry began consulting with the Epic Diagnostics & Imaging team, he was especially drawn to Epic Staffing Group’s core values “If It Matters to You, It Matters to Us,” “We Go All In,” and “We Show Up.” These, Larry says, mirror his own leadership style. “I grew up playing team sports, and have enjoyed being part of high-performing, high-achieving teams at work,” he notes. “I want to make sure that we create an environment that encourages growth, risk-taking, and learning – even when things don’t go perfectly. If we make a mistake, we learn from it, and keep moving forward.”

Facing the Radiology Staffing Challenge

Radiology – and healthcare staffing in general – is facing ongoing challenges: workforce shortages, clinician burnout, and limited educational pipelines. “We’re seeing the ripple effect of national shortages across the healthcare workforce,” Larry says. “The country produces 1,400 radiologists annually and there are more than 3,500 open jobs posted on the ACR job board –  creating a very competitive market.”

The resulting strain is fueling burnout and impacting retention, especially as providers are asked to do more with fewer resources. But with these challenges come real opportunities to innovate, support providers more effectively, and reimagine how care is delivered. “There’s a real need, and we’re in a strong position to meet it,” he says.

What Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Brings to the Table

Epic’s diversified platform, as Larry highlights, is key to navigating market challenges while continuously delivering exceptional services to both clients and clinicians. “Mark [Siegel] often points out how diversification helps Epic stay resilient and agile in a constantly evolving staffing landscape,” Larry explains. “But for us, it’s also about staying laser-focused on what matters most: clinician engagement and growth. Those are our top priorities.”

This commitment is supported by a strong internal foundation. “It’s a great group,” Larry says of the Epic Diagnostics & Imaging team. “I’m very lucky to be working with this team. Everyone brings real strengths to their areas of expertise, whether it’s recruiting, credentialing, operations, or account management. We’ve got a great base from which to build.”

That foundation comes to life through Epic Diagnostics & Imaging’s teleradiology services:

  • 24/7 Access to Expertise: Around-the-clock access to radiology expertise, including emergency and subspecialty reads, so you never have to compromise on care.
  • Seamless Integration: Our radiologists work directly in your systems, ensuring workflow continuity without disruptions.
  • Timely, Accurate Reports: Delivering fast, precise results that you can trust.
  • Cost-Effective Solutions: Our shift staffing is based on real-time volume, helping you control expenses without sacrificing quality.

Looking Ahead: Meeting Demand with Smart Solutions

For Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services, the horizon is filled with opportunity. Larger industry trends indicate that demand for radiology services is expected to grow significantly over the next five to ten years, driven by rising ED utilization, advances in imaging modalities, and an aging population. All signs point to expanded need, and Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services is positioning itself to meet that head-on.

One of the ways Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services is preparing is through its scribe program, an offering that helps radiologists reduce administrative burdens and improve turnaround time. “I’m excited about building our scribe program as well as leveraging artificial intelligence to further support radiologists in patient care,” Larry notes.

Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services: Building the Future of Teleradiology

As Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services continues to grow, Larry’s leadership and vision are helping shape a forward-looking, high-performing team. With a strong foundation, a people-first culture, and a commitment to innovation, the team is well-positioned to meet rising demand and deliver exceptional care. With strong momentum and a clear path ahead, Epic Diagnostics & Imaging Services is poised to make a lasting impact in the field of teleradiology.
